For me, it was no curse to be an eternal realistic optimist for the people. Hence, my choice to become part of the resolution of rural health than seeing poor farmers suffer from rural healthcare delivery neglect. Pioneers of change face untold difficulties until day society come to realization of the vision of the sage. Their path is normally strewn with social thorns and boulders of all sizes amid challenging public resistance one never dreamt. My singular view of life was predicated upon making dream Manding Medical Centre a reality for villagers. Confidence and optimism saw me through all challenges on my path to success. Fanatical or not I remained resolutely firm to bringing medical care to and relief to rural Gambia. Some saw me as an indefatigable, relentless dreamer there-ever was in Lower Badibou district’s limelight. Fate of family I met in 1956, going to seek medical aid from the Kerewan Health Centre stocked and became the only thought and desire in me to relief other families from experiencing such an unwarranted loss and pain, for lack of trained medical personnel, drugs and equipment. Hence this work is about the birth and establishment of Manding Medical Centre to provide medical service facility to villagers. However, this work is an effort to put another Gambian BIOGRAPHIC SYNOPSIS as recalled by a former Dresser Dispenser and now retired Medical Doctor, of a trailer blazer, who is none other than ALHJ SIR FARIMANG MAMADI SINGATEH, FIRST INDEGENOUS GOVERNO-GENERAL OF THE GAMBIA. Many are called but a few are chosen. Farimang Mamadi Singateh was born on 10th November 1912 at George Town in McCarthy Island, the Gambia and passed on 19 May 1977. He served at the Gambia’s health sector most of his life before being appointed Governor General in 1966 replacing Sir John Paul. Much more is divulged about life and positive contribution this gentle venerable Gambia left as legacy and footprints for young Gambians to follow.
