On the 21st of December 1988, PANAM Flight 103, a Boeing 747-121, on its way from London Heathrow to New York, was blown up over the town of Lockerbie, Scotland. All 259 persons on board of the aircraft and 11 residents of the town of Lockerbie were killed. In 2001 the Libyan Megrahi was sentenced to life imprisonment in Scotland.
