MIXED LIGAND COMPLEXES OF Ni(II)-DIAMINE-SALICYLIC ACID (1:1:1) AND (1:1:2:5) SYSTEMS
Mixed ligand complexes, in which a metal is bound to two different ligands are called ternary complexes. Mixed ligand complexes are very common among the inert complexes. In the reaction of formation a complex species MAB, where A and B are differing significantly in their complexing tendencies, are added to the central metal ion, there is formation of MA and the less complexing ligand B is left free in the solution. Such reactions are known since the times of Werner-Martell and Carey[1] and has been classified as ternary systems. Thus, a complex species MAB where A and B are two different ligand, is a 1:1:1 ternary complexes.
