Katia Krafft was a French volcanologist who fell in love with volcanoes at a young age. Her work, along with husband, Maurice Krafft, was instrumental in furthering our understanding of volcanoes. Ultimately, her work has saved thousands of lives. It was in capturing footage of pyroclastic flow at the foot of Mt. Unzen that she and her husband met their death. The day leading up to their death as well as the moment of their disappearance into the pyroclastic flow, was captured and presented in the documentary: "The Fire Within: A Requiem for Katia and Maurice Krafft."
