DITTRICH & ALLEN FAMILIES OF PHILADELPHIA

This book covers the ancestral families of Jessie (Dittrich) Irwin, the wife of Donald Irwin. Charles C. Dittrich was born in Prussia in 1827, and came to Philadelphia in 1850. Charles’s father, Joachim Andrew Dittrich was born in 1786 in Prussia and was a famous general in the Prussian army. Charles’ son, James A. Dittrich, was born in 1863, and in 1888 married Mary Holt Allen. Their first child was Jessie Elizabeth Dittrich who in 1915 married Donald Irwin. Other Dittrich family members noted were William Dittrich, born in Prussia in 1823 and later lived in Towanda, NY. His second wife and cousin, Elise Dittrich, was born in 1852 in Cawnpore, India. Mary Allen Dittrich’s ancestor, William Allin, arrived in Rhode Island from England in 1660. Later a descendant of Willam Allen, John Allen (1747-1813), was in the Revolutionary War. The generations after John Allen were his son, Samuel Allen born in 1797, Alonzo Allen. born 1824, Mary Allen Dittrich born 1862, Jessie Dittrich Irwin born 1890 followed by her sons Donald Jr, Edwin W, Howard A., and James M. Irwin and their children.
