This unfinished work by Andreas Horn is the first in English to examine German Army airship operations of WW1. In this initial draft, he describes their introduction and integration into the Army as new technology with great potential. As the First World War progresses, he sets the political and strategic context in which the airships are employed with limited success. Gradually they are overtaken by events and German Army airship operations cease in 1917, the remaining ships being handed over to the Navy.
