No one is more highly honored and remembered for their tales than the Brothers Grimm. The scholars, Jacob and Wilhelm, who are still acclaimed for their contributions to linguistics, hunted down local folklore and in 1812 published Kinder- und Hausmärchen (Kid and House Tales), a collection of short stories that we have come to know as “fairy tales.” Over the years, these stories have been re-told and edited to suit different needs and audiences, leaving their original darker endings long forgotten.
Using Margaret Hunt’s 1884 translation and illustrated by photographs of Austrian, Czech, and German scenery, Once Upon A Time… Märchen the Grimm Collection, recaptures the original spirit of these classic stories, in an edition that is anthologized towards the grimmer side of the Grimm Brothers tales.
