Chawton House Library is has a unique collection of books focusing on women's writing in English from 1600 to 1830. This specialist collection, set in the home and estate of Jane Austen's brother, Edward Austen Knight, provides the opportunity to read, study and savour the texts in context and inspire passion in readers of all ages. The Library's mission is to promote study and research in early English women's writing, in order to achieve this goal the library is open for members of the public to use, free of charge. The Library holds early editions of works from the period; many of the books in the collection are rare and in some cases even unique. Some of the library's rarest works are available in full-text via the Novels-On-Line project. Whilst these are freely available from the website, the pleasure of holding a reprint of these books and requests from our supporters, has led to the publication of this series from the Novels-On-Line Project.
