The Handbook of Contemporary Religious Questions was edited by Arbp. Conrad Groeber, Bishop of Freiburg, and published in 1937 with the approbation of the German Episcopate. Indeed, this book was the authoritative statement of the German Catholic Church on all political and religious questions of the era. Wide ranging the book was not simply a religious book on religious questions but rather a true handbook on contemporary questions of the time including history, philosophy, race, Catholic faith, controversies against the Church, marriage and family, etc., etc. The book speaks well to modern Catholics and those interested in learning more of our people’s history, conversion, growth in the Faith, and indeed in the Christianization of Europe. Clear Catholic explanations are given of the sacraments, sacramentals, and religious practices of the Church in the Faith, once for all time delivered to be passed on from generation to generation unchanged. The book is a power reminder of what the living Catholic faith is, in confronting modern enemies of the Faith, our poor catechesis and knowledge of faith and religion, and provides a needed continuity from our past to our future.
