The Adventure of the Retired Colourman

This story takes place in 1898. The elder and wealthy businessman, Josiah Amberley, referred by Scotland Yard, comes to Sherlock Holmes because his wife, twenty years younger than him, has run away with her lover, a friend who regularly comes to their house to play chess. In addition, they have taken his savings and some financial instruments. The detective gets a bad impression from this client and sends Dr. Watson to his house, who is disappointed by the bad condition of the residence and surprised because he is painting some walls and that smell is unpleasant. Likewise, Watson realized that a man was following him, and confirms that the old man went to the theater alone, while his wife stayed because she felt bad, and on his return, he discovered that she left and the vault was ransacked.
