“You, Yahweh, are the one, only Yahweh, you have created the heavens, the heaven of heavens and all their array, the earth and all it bears, the seas and all they hold.
To all of them You give life, and the array of heaven worships You.” - Nehemiah 9:6
In the first century AD Claudius Ptolemy wrote his most famous work The Almagest. His system became the Ptolemaic system and although not all of the concepts were his original ideas, he gave an incredible service to future generations by documenting all of the astrological and astronomical knowledge up until that point.
Aristotle had also proposed this idea of many levels or layers (multiple firmaments) and later Tycho Brahe improved even further on Ptolemy, firstly by the accuracy of his observations and secondly on finally putting to bed the belief that each of the seven layers of the seven heavens were not impenetrable but were fluid like (see later on) which was shown by the ability of comets to pass through the various levels due to his discovery of the De Nova Stella (today termed supernova) in the 16th century.
Known as Tycho, he is said to have been the most accurate astronomer in history in his calculations/observations ‘by an order of magnitude’ and the ‘most accurate’ as well as the ‘last of the great astronomers’ prior to the invention of the telescope.
Copernicus and Keppler were not real astronomers who spent their time conducting observations of the heavens like Tycho did. Copernicus was a theoretical scientist as was Keppler. Their writings were all based on their own theories which were not based on hard evidence of observations. Tycho was a lutheran so he was not a puppet of the vatican like Copernicus and Keppler were.
