Course: Ethics and Professional Responsibilities for NYS Addiction Professionals

Approved by OASAS for 25 hours--CASAC Section 4, CPP/CPS Section 3. This information-packed course provides the New York State addiction professional with a succinct explanation of ethics and professional responsibilities. Topics include: Canons of Ethics for CASACs, CPPs, and CPSs, transference, countertransference, the unique nature of the professional-client relationship, filing an ethics complaint, OASAS Counselor Wellness Guidelines and Counselor Assistance Program, OASAS patient rights regulations, professional obligations, confidentiality, privacy, information security, the history of medical privacy, the new HIPAA privacy and security requirements that apply to all addictions prevention/treatment/recovery programs certified by OASAS, consent to release information--including crimes, medical emergencies, child abuse/neglect, Jonathan's Law, tobacco-free services regulation, documentation, and scope of practice.
