Stormy nights in sea side towns aren’t good for much.
Especially not in this one.
Most people home for the night.
Only two cars remain in the parking lot of Marty’s Anchor. Illuminated by the warm orange light from inside the bar.
The kitchen closed and dark.
Empty booths in dining rooms, the dark shadow of the warmly lit bar, where a lonely acoustic plays melancholy chords for the bartender and the one other occupant at the other end.
The door opens, letting in a howling wind that would’ve rivaled a timberwolf.
“Hey! We’re closed!” Mason calls and takes a sip, not even bothering to look up.
“Even to family?”
That voice.
Cut through them like ice.
The bartender’s eyes shoot up to see soaking wet white hair clinging to her cheeks. Icy blue eyes just barely looking up. Voice bigger than the body.
“Nobody hurts you like family, but nobody loves you like family either.”
