FREEDOM OF PRESS:THE SITTING DUCK

ByBalthazar Rodrigue Nzomono-Balenda

Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
Freedom of press is under attack in countries with bad governance and poor human rights records, and at the same time governments from those countries make excuses and blame Western powers for everything that goes wrong in their countries. Sometimes freedom of press is under attack right in our backyards, the developed world, around the world journalists, writers, bloggers face threats from governments, companies, criminals, fundamentalist Muslims, far right and far left extremists etc. On the other hand the media is its own worse enemy because it chooses to censer itself on so many levels out of the fear of be vilified by Muslims and other groups of people, there is a fire storm in the mainstream media. Journalists and people with similar occupations face threats, kidnappings, imprisonments and in the worst case they face death for doing their job, that's not healthy for a functional society.
