“Every page is soaked in fear, embarrassment or loneliness… yet Gullible Travels in an inspirational book: few people collect as many great stories in their lives.”
— Chris Chapman
The 1990s: a time before mobile phones and the internet changed the world forever. When getting lost really meant getting lost.
Whilst Barnaby Attwell spent a lot of the decade travelling, mostly without maps or guidebooks and with a terrible sense of direction, he managed to avoid or ignore most tourist destinations and end up in dodgy bars.
Through the mean streets of Europe, North Africa, New Orleans, South East Asia and Australasia, Attwell encounters hitmen, ladyboys, millionaires, strippers, pirates, murders, prostitutes… and the occasional Dutch backpacker.
His random adventures include doing drugs with waiters in New Orleans, acting in a film during a revolution in Jakarta, getting lost in the Sahara Desert with only a cat to show him the way back and missing a massacre in Egypt by just a few hours.
