The Role of Innovative Educational Systems in Developing Critical Thinking Skills

Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
Critical Thinking Skills (CTS) are crucial to possess in a democratic society, for example when confronted with propaganda in politics or conflicting theories in science. CTS are defined as being composed of 1) cognitive skills as interpretation, analysis and evaluation and 2) affective dispositions as inquisitiveness and open-mindedness. Development is fostered through grammar, logic and rhetoric as well as practice through in depth reading of complex books. Facilitating creative and practical abilities is said to strengthen CTS. Problems encountered in innovative learning environments and various other criticisms suggest that education has a degrading role in developing CTS, but no valid and reliable evidence is found which substantiates this claim.
