“Even if you are chanting so much, lakhs and lakhs holy names, it is not sure that you will have His mercy and that Krsna will be realized. If you are not surrendered, you cannot bind Krsna. So first you should surrender to your Gurudeva. If he is qualified then surrender to him and then you should chant and remember: “Iti pumsarpita visnau (SB 7.5.24) What is the meaning of pumsarpita? Pumsam arpita. First offer yourself at the lotus feet of your Gurudeva and then if you will hear from him, then it is sravanam. Then if you are perfect in sravana, then you can do kirtana. Otherwise you can never do kirtana. Krsna will not listen. He will never listen. So try to be like that. Then you can do other things. Then it will be bhakti. If you are chanting ‘Hare Krsna’ the whole day and night, if you are reading books day and night, if you are worshiping, it is of no use if you have not surrendered. “If you are not under the guidance of your Gurudeva or any high class of devotee, everything you do is like zero. But if you are surrendered to your Gurudeva then he will help you to surrender unto the lotus feet of Krsna. Then even if you are chanting very little, no harm. Because now you have some relation with Krsna that ‘Krsna is my beloved. I am Krsna’s and Krsna is mine.’ Then even if you will chant very little, no harm. Only two rounds or not even that, no harm. The gopis have no mala, no chanting beads. But yet Krsna is controlled by them because all their efforts were to please Krsna.”
