We are pleased to present the fourteenth volume of the Bhakta Bandhav Anthology, consisting of the lectures of Sri Srimad Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami Maharaja, Bhakta Bandhav Srila Gurudeva, spoken in Hindi and translated into English, from March 1st to March 7th, in 1997, in Singapore. As Srila Gurudeva’s disciples and followers, we are striving to honor and please him, with this presentation of his unabridged hari-katha, in a series of volumes that will cover all of his discourses and darsanas, envisioned as a Vani-mandira, temple of his divine words.
Upon his arrival to Singapore on March 1st, Srila Gurudeva spoke about the key to achieving happiness: “We should consider, ‘Where have we come from? Why have we come here? Why are all these problems coming and where will we have to go?’ Saints say that our dharma is prema. We are not from Hindu religion, Christian religion, Buddhist, or Muslim. These are just societal norms. In reality, our dharma is prema (divine love). Krsna has come to this world for this thing only.
“Rama has come to this world for this thing only, that, ‘You should love Me. We will give you love.’ But there are some rules and regulations to come to Krsna or God. Our real dharma is prema. Krsna came to Vraja and when He used to play on His flute, the birds, insects, and deers, they would come very near to Krsna’s and beg for prema. He used to love everyone. There was not anyone who did not drown in His prema. He used to love all and all used to love Krsna. That is why He has come for this.
“Now we see that there are Christians, Buddhists, and Hindus. But even if they do not do anything, they must surely have some prema in them. There is not a single living being who does not love their spouse, mother, daughter, or brother. Even a lion loves his lioness and children. You know ants? They are always in a group. We have seen in Vrndavana that there are groups of monkeys. If you tease even one monkey, they all come together in a group and attack you. That is why the world’s dharma is prema. If you want to be happy, you will have to have this prema.”
