Božena Marija Roš was born in Laško, Slovenia but brought up in Žalec where her burgeoning artistic talent led her to take lessons with the renowned Slovenian painter, Žuža Jelica. After studying at the University of Ljubljana she worked as a librarian at the Stadtbücherei in Remscheid, West Germany where she met her future husband, Alan Roderick. They eventually moved to Newport, South Wales where Božena studied Graphic Design at the prestigious Newport College of Art. After graduating, she then had a variety of jobs, making use of her artistic skills and talents, and also illustrated many of Alan’s books, as well as exhibiting her paintings at many local venues and playing an active part in the Newport and South Wales arts scene. BOŽENA’S BOOK pays tribute to her memory and her vibrant artistic and literary abilities.
