Satie (for flute and clarinet); 2010

This piece was commissioned by sisters Virginia and Ann Francis for a duo recital at Morehead State University. The other piece they were playing was Villa-Lobos' "Choros No.2", so I wanted to provide a contrasting element to the recital. When I hear flute and clarinet in duo, the tone colors that come to mind are those of the great Impressionist composers. I tried to write something unique, while thinking about how Erik Satie would compose for this instrumentation. Slightly minimalistic, yet strikingly beautiful.
