Beauty, Emotional Sincerity, Intensity, and Profound Insight ....
It is said that “a picture is worth a thousand words...” But for the Alabama poet, Brandon Hill, a picture evokes a thousand words.
This anthology, inspired by the photograph at left — the reflection of a desolate sandy expanse in which but a single solitary plant has pushed its way through the sand, and reaches upward toward the sky — carries a universal message. One that not only resonates with the African American Male, but all spirits struggling to break free and find an outlet through which to break out and sprout.
The message of the “Garden of Sand” explains the downfall and the uplifting of the African American Male who has been dispirited by society and the eye of the disappointed African American female.
Even though it might be hard to grow here, does not mean it’s not possible.”
