Over a century ago, the twice widowed and elderly Semen Gurba left his ancestral village of Skoloszow, Galicia and headed for a new life in the sparsely settled area of North Central Alberta, Canada. Accompanying him was his son Anton and his family and Semen’s unmarried daughter Sofia. Within a year, he would be joined in Canada by his 3 other surviving children and their families.
Little was known about the Gurba family in the years before Semen’s immigration nor much about their first few years in Canada and their subsequent dispersal across North America…until now.
This book will reveal details of the Gurba family stretching back to birth of Semen’s grandfather in 1772 and cover the next 155 years until the death of this son Anton in 1927. It also includes an updated family tree covering 8 generations of Gurba descendents.
