It’s 1986 and Marek Kalas is enjoying his senior year of high school. The girl of his dreams is finally talking to him, and they are quickly becoming friends. He’s writing for the school paper and his articles on vampires, werewolves, strange creatures, ghosts, and urban legends have gained him some popularity. His job at the gas station is earning him money toward buying his first car.
One night, a chance encounter with a werewolf that seemed to crawl out of his books turned his simple life upside down. His brush with the creature pushes him into a strange new world full of monsters that threaten him, his family, and friends. He comes to terms with his new fate with a circle of new friends that help guide him through his journey to fight a coven of vampires set on revenge.
We learn about Marek as he documents the last few months of his life prior to being shackled to a wall in a dank basement and meeting the monsters that he thought only existed in books and nightmares while he awaits his fate. This novel is based on the short story “The Kalas Papers: My First Rodeo” that appeared in the horror anthology Autumn Tales II: Pumpkin Slice Nightmares in 2023 by Anatolian Press.
