Part of the "And The Road Goes On" series of travel and adventure stories, "The Heart Of The Arizona Outback" documents a May 2019 weekend spent "in the middle of nowhere", exploring the history of Salome, Arizona with stops in Poston, Arizona; Rice, California; Vidal, California; Blythe, California; and Wenden, Arizona to explore abandoned Japanese internment camps, abandoned airfields, an abandoned gas station filled with angry wasps, and cute, quaint motels (that, thankfully, weren't abandoned). Ninety full-color pages filled with full-page photos and illustrations, this article is also one of my all-time favorites. Minus the wasps. They sucked.
