This is the first book in the Civil War 2 series, which projects present day political discord into future conflict and consequences from a traditional American perspective. The novel is set fifty years after the end of the war. The story follows two families who flee their homes in the Alliance city of Chicago to start new lives with new identities in the rural farming town of Freemont. Facing food and energy shortages as well as a national credit crisis, President Benito Torres, nephew of the Santos Cartel leader, issues an Executive Order that jeopardizes the tense peace between the factions of the divided nation. The citizens of Freemont find themselves unexpectedly vilified and under siege with the future of their community and the Free State coalition in doubt.
