“behind my smile” is a collection of short poetry written during and about the hardest years of my life. each poem was written on a different day in a notes document on my iphone. i’ve been writing short poetry for years and never imagined i’d actually be sharing them. it wasn’t until i shared some of my personal, emotional poems with a therapy group that i realized my story could have a positive impact on people.
if you’re reading this and you’re tired. if you feel broken or invisible or like you’ve messed up too many times-
please hear me:
you are not too far gone.
there is no number of relapses, no rock bottom, no diagnosis that makes you unworthy of help.
you are allowed to start over as many times as it takes.
that’s what i did.
and i’m still here.
that counts for something.
so are you.
and that means everything.
