The project consists of residential program set above a public park overlooking the bay of San Francisco. It is located in the Russian Hill neighborhood of San Francisco 125 feet above sea level, on a hill sloping down into the bay 1/4 mile away.
The project’s intent is to become minimally invasive to the surrounding urban fabric while dealing with existing site conditions and social conditions. The scheme preserves the existing park while creating additional park space ramping up into the building creating a viewpoint for visitors. San Francisco is known for its characteristic fog percolating into the hills upon which the project is located. Low lying clouds mesh into the building filtering through the park below.
The project also preserves the view of surrounding buildings while creating a different perspective for the viewer outside. Reflective glass and cladding elements mirror the city, bay, and surrounding areas while maintaining the dense appearance of the city.
