A Christmas Carol (Deseret Alphabet edition)
Charles Dickens (1812–1870) was an English writer and social critic, generally considered to be the greatest novelist of the Victorian Era. His works include “David Copperfield,” “Oliver Twist,” “Great Expectations,” “Bleak House,” and “A Tale of Two Cities.” “A Christmas Carol” is the first of five books Dickens wrote to celebrate the Christmas season. First published in 1843, it immediately became a Christmas staple and almost single- handedly revived the celebration of Christmas as a joyous holiday in the English-speaking world. This book is in the Deseret Alphabet, a phonetic alphabet for writing English developed in the mid-19th century at the University of Deseret (now the University of Utah).
