Gordon, Saltar, Wharton Family Papers, 1723-1858

The principal figures associated with this collection were members of the related Gordon, Saltar, Wharton, and Wharton Bickley families and, to a lesser extent, their Howell and Lardner relatives, whose country seats bordered Magnolia Grove, the Gordon/Saltar estate on the Delaware River in the Tacony area of lower Northeast Philadelphia. What follows is an overview of the area in which Magnolia Grove was located, the estate itself and the principal family groups. A good deal of information on these subjects appears, as well, throughout this work.
