Nigeria has a large natural gas reserve in excess of 182 Tcf of proved reserve and produces about 2Tcf annually. Currently, about 50% of this volume produced is being flared. Converting natural gas into liquid fuels using GTL technology is an attractive option for Nigeria to commercialise its abundant gas reserves and reduce gas flaring. GTL has the additional benefit of potentially lowering the imports of diesel and LPG’s in the process thus earning and saving substantial amounts of hard currency.
