Corrupted From Memory - Fine Art Nude Photography

The 140+ monochrome, fine art nude images within this monograph, made over a 20 year period, explore photography and the impact photographs have upon memory. They are not designed to be documents but rather narratives etched onto flesh, bearing the weight of time, desire and the inevitable distortions of failing remembrance. Instead of idealised portrayals, they present "corrupted memories," whispers echoing through the fractured lens of recollection. Through the interplay of light and shadow, memory and perception, these photographs are intended as an invitation to confront the raw essence of the human condition, embracing the messy, magnificent paradox of existence. Within this monograph figures emerge not as polished marble statues, but as whispers etched into fading silver, ink, torn and creased paper, emulsion lifting and decomposing. Fragments salvaged from the wreckage of time, testaments to lives lived beyond the frame. Whilst having embraced the digital world, Christopher much prefers the organic qualities and aesthetics offered by film, paper negatives, often using long and/or double exposures. He uses a variety of equipment to create his images. These include TLR, pin-hole, Toy cameras along with digital cameras paired with vintage and legacy lenses. Post-capture, images undergo meticulous manipulation. Cutting, pasting, scratching, bleaching, or a combination of these techniques create the desired aesthetic. Traditional silver prints might spend days submerged in water, softening the emulsion before being sculpted through scraping or pressured water. Negatives are printed through etched, damaged, or painted glass plates that become tools for layering texture and depth. Where analogue techniques reach their limit, digital enhancements seamlessly weave in further details.
