This is a recollection of the life of Lt. Col. Gordon Rolla Lanker Sr. in his own words. Gordon was involved in the Second World War after graduating from pilot training on October 30, 1942. Gordon spent two tours overseas during World War II. In the first tour, he was stationed in India with the Third Photo Mapping Squadron, flying B-24s to China over the Hump. His second tour was with the Nineteenth Long-Distance Reconnaissance Squadron, flying B-17s on reconnaissance missions out of North Africa. This autobiography includes the early memories of his life; growing up in Grand Rapids, Ohio; his marriage; pilot training and his service in the Second World War; and his career at the post office, culminating in his four years heading the Toledo Post Office as acting postmaster.
