I often believed that a home was about the people you loved being around you rather than a place, until I moved away from my childhood home of 25 years. I found I missed the “place”, the nature, the landscape, the trees. We grow attached to not only people, but our materials, and the landscape that we see each day (although we don’t always stop to appreciate it).
My Grandpap’s Trees, reflects on my grandfather’s friendship with and appreciation of the pine trees in our yard. As well, the book talks about a man who did not have a case of the “I wants”. He didn’t need fancy things. He found every day gifts in neighbors, community, family, observing nature, and being content with having what he needed.
I hope My Grandpap’s Trees makes people feel nostalgic for their surroundings, past and present, and pushes them to take time and really stop, observe, and appreciate the landscape around them.
