The original version of Selected Recipes was produced in the mid 1920's, as a fundraising activity for the House of Benevolence orphanage. It brought together recipes from dozens of local and state-wide households. Copies were distributed locally, but have since found their way to many corners of the United States. Reviewing the book, it speaks to the reader of a time of transition: From farmland to suburb, from Iceboxes to Refrigerators. Much has changed since the book's original production. The current version seeks to maintain that view, with minor editing, and some attempt to explain certain features of '20's household kitchens that might seem strange to modern readership. Hopefully, this version will have recipes that will be fun to make and enjoyable to consume, while providing a connection with generations past.
