In the early 1900s, Fergus Gilchrist moved his family to the small town of Castlecove on the southern coast of Ireland. Other than Fergus, no one was very happy with the move. The house was a ramshackle structure far worse than the apartment in which the family had lived in Killarney.
Much worse than the house, however, was the night. Logic dictated that the mournful wails were nothing more than the wind about the gables. Young Kyna knew better. Never had the wind wailed so mournfully. Surely, it was a banshee, portending the death of a loved one.
It was after finding a cemetery in the woods behind their house that Kyna discovered the secret of the rural area, and indeed, of the very house in which they lived. This realization, however, came too late, as death visited the Irish countryside.
