Since the global onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, many illnesses have exploded in societies, leading to a plethora of common healthcare issues across the world. In Pressing Health Issues of the Modern Society, three common illnesses that have been on the rise and have taken the world by storm are elaborated on: monkeypox, COVID-19, and epilepsy. Each of the three can lead to diverse sets of healthcare issues such as vaccine hesitancy, mental health, and the need to scale up public health programmes to name a few. For example, monkeypox is a seemingly new player that has emerged after COVID-19, with little known about the management of infected patients. COVID-19 is a case which demanded immediate intergovernmental attention to design vaccines to be delivered in multiple doses to combat wave after wave. Epilepsy, a common but publicly-underrated condition, may reflect a history of mental illness that yet remains poorly understood. Governments have been encouraged by such illnesses to fortify the healthcare systems and continue research to take these challenges head-on.
