Manmade

Accompanying catalogue and critical essay to the exhibition "Manmade", June 9th – 20th, 2008, East Gallery, CGU. Highlights a selection of contemporary art works from the LA area and beyond that examine the division between humanity, animal and nature—at times attempting to meld and mediate this divide into one while at others mirroring this frequently derisive relationship. Technology becomes a tool of imitation and replication, with possibilities for new conceptualizations considered against the tension (and often the futility) of erasing the distinction between our environment and ourselves. Art is employed as a medium of negotiation, illustrating both an inherent vision of nature as well as that projected and made by man. Artists: M DEE, J ESPINOSA, M FABIAN, L HOGIN, R KIM, J NACCARATO, C NGUYEN, C SOLYAGUA, J VANDERPOOL, A WOOD, Y YAMAGUCHI. 39 pages; 14 colour illustrations; List of Works; Jill Thayer, Catalogue Design; Foreword by Marianne Elder, Art Gallery of Calgary
