Children are growing up in a world with extreme societal pressures that create a false perception of what beauty is. Girls especially, struggle with confidence and have a constant need to be accepted. Emotional distress, self-identify issues, anxiety, and depression are deeply rooted in self-esteem. Growing up, Danyel struggled with self-esteem issues and constantly sought validation from her peers, which is why she is an advocate for little girls like her.
Diamond in the Rough, is a story about two girls who struggle with their confidence while navigating in the teenage world. Trying new things petrify them because of self-doubt and feeling inadequate. The story sheds light on the purity and innocence that all young girls are born with, until they enter an environment that slowly dims their light. It explores the resiliency of children when they are faced with life's challenges. It also exposes the effects of bullying at a young age, the influence of public opinion, and the negative psychological impact. As you read, remember to continue speaking life into your children, and constantly validate them so they never have to question their who they are, their worth, and what they're capable of.
