This volume celebrates the history of the town of Archie, Missouri. Archie was founded in 1880 when the tracks of the Lexington & Southern/Missouri Pacific Railroad were laid through central Cass County. These photographs highlight the economic and social foundations of the town. Rural towns such as Archie supplied the goods and services that the farmers in the surrounding communities needed. Retail outlets, such as grocery stores, general stores, drug stores and lumber yards, were necessary for both the farmers and the town citizens. Important services were supplied such as doctors and blacksmiths. Post offices supplied one means of communicating with the outside world. Railroads were another. Churches and schools were important to the local people. This book includes examples of each of these. In addition to photographs of the buildings and people of Archie, pictures from the Austin and Everett communities are included.
