Photographic Guide to Ursa Major using the Sloan Digital Telescope

ByDave Lane

A Photographic Catalogue of Deep Sky Objects in the Ursa Major Constellation taken on the Sloan Digital Telescope. Ursa Major, often known as "The Plough" is a familiar sight in the night sky to most of us. It's seven major stars can be clearly seen in even the most light polluted environments. Those who live in dark locations can see many more stars ...... but what is also there? This volume shows what can be seen in Ursa Major through a large powerful telescope, the Sloan Digital Telescope at Apache Point Observatory in Arizona, a multi-filter imaging 2.5 meter scope which also records spectroscopic redshift details. The Sloan Telescope Survey commenced in 2000 and aims to map 25% of the sky, and record observations on about 100 million objects. This volume illustrates the hidden grandeurs of the Ursa Major Constellation using these images from the Sloan Telescope. To find out more about the Sloan Digital Survey go to: http://www.sdss.org/
