Getting Smarter:Teacher Guidance for Writing Individual Education Plans and Targets for Pupils with Special Educational Needs

The associated concepts of Individual Education Plans and SMART Targets for pupils with special educational needs (SEN) are not recent innovations, as it has been suggested that the concepts first arrived in the United Kingdom with the first Code of Practice in England. However, recent experience has shown that there is still a long way to go before teachers of pupils with SEN get to the stage where their practice in relation to SMART targets and IEPs is embedded.
