Daniel Alexander's Place in Prison Design

In 1805, a prison was built in the middle of Dartmoor (Devon) to house French, and later American prisoners of war. The thesis, written in 1976, describes with the handling of the project by the architect Daniel Alexander, and the influence on him of contemporary prison design of the time. It also details some of Alexander's work at London Dock and at Maidstone Prison.
