This book is a roller-coaster ride through my true-life story. This is a life-affirming message as it documents how a terrible accident turns around my sad, mildly abused life into a wonderful, uplifting experience - making something good out of bad. It is about a tragic event that changed my life for the better. In my early years I was abused and forgotten. I felt unloved and unwanted. My life felt really hard and pointless.
Then I lost my right eye to a sharp blade.
My eye wept and all my sorrows drained away.
Through my one and only left eye the world suddenly brightened, and my life changed.
The best thing that happened to me was losing that eye and seeing the world afresh.
It begins with a cliff-hanger, as I start to lose my grip on an un-roped climb thousands of feet up a rockface. We then travel through my life to find out how I got there. I was brought up in a large family of seven brothers and sisters, and my parents ran a local grocery shop, but I felt totally unloved and was often punished with a thrashing. However, everything changed after a tragic accident in which I lost my right eye, and suddenly, everyone could see me!
I spend most of my life trying to prove myself and to gain other people's attention, and even love. This leads to a whole host of misadventures and madness as we follow my life through school, travel, work and marriage. We eventually come back around to the start of the story, where I am struggling up the rockface, to discover exactly what happens next.
This is about how a simple mistake can change your life. In an innocent, childish moment, I lost the sight of one eye, and I spent the rest of my life trying to compensate for it. This is an uplifting story of love and hope, with positive moral messages about society, people and the world we live in. No matter how little you have, there is always someone poorer than you. No matter how much wealth you have, there is always someone richer than you. No matter how low you are feeling, there is always someone worse off than you. You just have to make the most of the life you have. Remember, don’t frown – smile, and don’t take – give.
