Resentment can be a wedge that splits families apart. That proves to be the case for the family of Miriam Piexe, a woman living in the Independence, Missouri of 1975. Ever since her 1964 divorce, she has been of the position that her sons Jacob and J.C. Briggs should keep hating their father, Ammon, her first husband, as much as she does. When her present husband, Fredrico Piexe, says both boys should drop their ill feelings towards their dad, Miriam becomes angry. Her anger become a wedge that threatens to split family apart.
Though set in a bygone time, this novel is a timeless story about what happens when a resentment is not dropped.
