The main character is Comfort Leonard. With her two best friends she travels to Scotland, in part in search of her ancestors and her past, but the thread of her journey takes her to Skye, where she encounters a friend/sister/guide, Opal Caledonia, who helps her see the design of her life is no accident nor is their meeting a random event.
