There is a Chinese proverb that says, "One moment of patience may ward off great disaster. One moment of impatience may ruin a whole life." This is the essence of the story "You're Too Young....Maybe Next Year." How do you teach a boy that growing up takes patience How do you explain to a young boy that sometimes he can't do all the things his big brother is doing As a father of a young man and a Boy Scout leader, I found myself explaining this to many a young boy. They always want to do what the "bigger boys" are doing. Whether it was using a pocket knife or using a bow and arrow, they were always intrigued with what was just over the horizon. The little Indian boy in this story learns quickly that growing up takes patience. His courage in a moment of crisis saves a village and a baby girl from certain disaster. My wish is that this story becomes a useful device for anyone explaining to a young man what it means to have the patience of effort and the vision of ends to grow up slowly.
