The oldest surviving theatrical performance of Greek civilization entails cultural transmission due to African migration. The Greek play, “The Suppliant Maidens,” by Aeschylus tells of 50 runaway Egyptian princesses seeking sanctuary in Greece, and the struggle that ensues when their male cousins attempt to bring them home. This is the tale of the Danaii. The legend acts as the foundation for the graphic series, Sacred Blood. It is presented as a coordinated movement, which begins with the African occupation of the Greek Peloponnesus. Previously in Queen’s Gambit…. The waters around the settlement are rich and act as a lifeline to the rest of the kingdom; while at the same time, the virgin fields within it have developed a thriving farming community. The cults in control of these two natural resources now vie to name the new city in their honor. Cults Poseidon and Athena look to Cercrops to decide the matter. Cercrops can’t overcome his prejudice as a citizen of Sais; he favors the cult Athena and names the new city Athens.
