The Mermaid and Her Sunflowers

A young mermaid princess learns the perpetual joy of sharing. The original intent for this story was to entertain my four-year-old daughter at bedtime. Upon completion, somehow, it took on deeper meaning as a model of the “life well lived”. It's childlike imagery somehow eludes my pride, helping me to own my shortcomings, yet inspiring me, to live a life that offers more to others. Unfathomable, priceless truths can be shared with children in hopes of not only saving them from many heartaches, but to encourage them to live a life that makes a positive difference in the lives of others. I am resolved to remain childish enough to believe that the open, generous and yielding hand is imbued with infinite power that the hard-wielded, inflexible "iron fist of will" can never grasp.
