Healing Myanmar - Protecting and Safeguarding the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar
'The Glass Palace' / (2000) A Historical Novel
The acclaimed author of 'The Calcutta Chromosome' and 'The Shadow Lines', this is a major saga on that hidden country, Myanmar.
The name of the novel derives from the Glass Palace Chronicle, which is an old Burmese historical work commissioned by King Bagyidaw in 1829.
The novel is set in Burma, Bengal, India, and Malaya, spans a century from the Third Anglo-Burmese War and the consequent fall of the Konbaung Dynasty in Mandalay, through World War 2, to the late 20th century.
It's the winner of the Frankfurt Award 2001 and New York Times Notable Books of 2001.
The Glass Palace was translated and published into over 25 languages.
The Burmese translation won the Myanmar National Literature Award in 2012.
The last part of the novel is an extended elegy to Aung San Suu Kyi - the 1991 Nobel Peace Prize laureate - who played a vital role in Myanmar's transition from military junta to partial democracy in the 2010s.
Aung San Suu Kyi - leader of the ruling NLD Party - which won a landslide election victory in 2020, was arrested on 1 February 2021 following an illegal military takeover - Aung San Suu Kyi's unlawful imprisonment being a travesty of justice; brought about by the tyrant Min Aung Hlaing.
A tragic testament of Myanmar’s ongoing military repression and impunity, the military has sent a wave of bloodshed through the country, killing at least 6,337 civilians and 165 Children since the military illegally seized power - Min Aung Hlaing being responsible for systematic violence, assassinations, arbitrary detentions and thekilling of children in Myanmar.
PS: It is worth noting that Min Aung Hlaing's military dictatorship has lost, and they know it. This is what makes them so desperate.
The knowledge that soon they will have nowhere to hide, and will be brought to Justice.
It's just a matter of time, that they will be made to answer for all that they have done, and be jailed for crimes against Humanity.
We also would like to encourage the People of Myanmar to say whatever they like, to speak freely, even of simple things, and to remain positive in the face of adversity.
As sure as the Sun always rises in the beautiful country of Myanmar, also this dark time will pass - and Peace, Prosperity and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) will be manifested in Myanmar.
Love and Light / God Bless
