According to the changing user requirements, the developed software system needs modifications. Such being the case, maintenance becomes essential. Software engineering activities are required for the software maintenance process that occurs after the software has been delivered to the user. Maintenance involves adding new functionalities and features (using the latest technology) to the existing software system. The primary objective of software maintenance is to make the software system operates according to user requirements and fix errors in the software. Due to the non-functioning of the software or incompatibility of hardware with the software the errors arise. When software maintenance is to be done on a small segment of the software code, software patches are applied. These patches are used to fix errors only in the software code that contains errors.
